In June BRE staged the 4-day Offsite07 at its Garston headquarters. The event was support by the East of England Development Agency (EEDA) along with over 10 other commercial sponsors and attracted over 4,500 visitors from all parts of the construction sector. Offsite07’s objective was to demonstrate how modern methods of construction (MMC) and advanced technologies are coming together to deliver high performance, low carbon, sustainable and smarter buildings. The event combined a series of conferences and workshops with a large exhibition.
The centrepiece of the event was BRE’s unique ‘Big Build’ on the Innovation Park at the heart of its Garston site. The Innovation Park is a semi-permanent installation of real buildings designed and constructed by leading contractors demonstrating all the latest principles and technologies in MMC.
The Big Build comprised seven full-scale new buildings: six houses and a ‘mini-school’. See inside pages.
Although Offsite07 is now over, the Big Build is still there and will be used by BRE and the contractors who provided the buildings to further demonstrate to clients the opportunities offered by MMC. The winner of the ‘Home for the Future’ competition (part of the British Homes Awards sponsored by the Daily Mail newspaper) will be built at BRE later this year. The house is a design by Gaunt Francis Architects.
BRE is able to arrange visits to the Innovation Park to groups of suitable building professionals. For further information on this please use the contact details below.
